Fitness Tip of the Week: 4 Tips to Increase Your HAppiness - BlenderBottle

While many factors play into our happiness, the short list below are a few things that can help boost your mood almost instantly! Give it a read and give ‘em a shot. :)

1. Connect with Friends

Even if you consider yourself an introvert, reaching out to friends and family - if even for a few minutes of conversation - can go a long way in boosting your mood. We as human beings need to feel connected and loved, whether we like to admit it or not. Make a phone call, pay a friend a visit, even strike up a chat on Facebook with an old friend! Reaching out and connecting with friends is one way to boost your happiness.

2. Stop Procrastinating

This is huge. Take an hour and finish that nagging paper for school, answer that difficult email at work, and schedule in time to take care of any other nagging tasks. Procrastination is one sure-fire way to drain your happiness and make sure you stay worried, stressed, and depressed. If you feel overwhelmed, take a few minutes to sit down and analyze your to-dos. Rank them in order of importance, then take care of anything that requires only a few minutes to complete. For projects or tasks that require more time or effort, schedule them into your week and then stick to your schedule. When the time rolls around to take care of that difficult task, just think of how happy you will feel once it's complete, then do it.

3. Make "Me Time" (Have Fun!)

Think about your day today: what did you do for fun? In what way did you relax and take a break? What are you grateful for? If you had difficulty answering any of these questions, chances are you're in desperate need of some "me time." It's all too easy in today's fast-paced world to get caught up in everything we have to do and neglect our own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Studies show that laughing and having fun can significantly reduce stress, increase happiness, and improve both physical and emotional wellness. Another plug for scheduling here: set specific times for when you will do something fun, then stick with it! You are worth it.

4. Do a Good Deed

Service is often the quickest way to bring genuine happiness. Look for simple ways to help others around you throughout the day. Write a quick thank-you note to a friend, help a stranger carry their groceries, shovel your neighbor's walk, make or buy a small gift for your spouse, etc. We often feel the way we do because of how we act. If you want to feel happy, think about what you can do to bring happiness into someone else's life. Do good, feel good. It's as simple as that!
