Remember the pure joy as a kid of curling up with a favorite book? We wanted to make moments like that possible for local school children.
BlenderBottle partnered with the United Way and a local Title I school in the Everyday Learners program. In preparation, BlenderBottle employees decorated book bags with the names of each of the school’s 4th and 5th grade students. We filled each bag with a brand new book and a BlenderBottle shaker.
In September, a group of employees visited the school: Timpanogos Elementary in Provo, UT, which has a poverty rate of more than 85 percent. We introduced the book selections, then personally delivered a customized book bag to each student. We were bombarded with hugs from the eager readers. Some students were so excited by the unexpected gifts that they couldn’t help but jump up and down!
Every month, we return to the school and deliver a new book to each student. The kids participate in reading groups together throughout the month. By the end of the year, each student will have their own library collection of literary gems. It’s a gift of learning that they get to keep—forever.
