SKIPPING BREAKFAST CAN MAKE YOU CRAVE FATTY FOODS

SKIPPING BREAKFAST CAN MAKE YOU CRAVE FATTY FOODS - BlenderBottle

With winter coming into full swing, the days are getting shorter and colder. For a lot of us, that means hitting the snooze button more often‚ and skipping out on breakfast entirely.

It's no secret that eating a healthy breakfast is the right way to kick-start your day and set you up for success. That morning meal gives you energy for the rest of the day, and keeps you full until lunch. But did you know that skipping breakfast can also make you crave fatty foods later in the day?

The Breakfast Study

Scientists at Imperial College London conducted a studys analyzing this very question. Twenty one healthy participants were given a large breakfast one day, and then no breakfast the next day. Both days, they were shown images of healthy, low-calorie foods and fatty, high-calorie foods while being monitored by an MRI scanner. The scanner, which observed changes in the orbitofrontal cortex (the part of the brain believed to control food appeal), measured responses to the images. The study found that skipping breakfast caused people to favor fatty foods over healthier options.

Make Breakfast a Priority

We're strong advocates of the theory that choosing to be healthy is a mental game. When you eat breakfast, you give yourself a mental edge throughout the day. But we're all busy, and we don't always have time in the morning to prepare an entire meal. Here are a couple ways to save time and save your breakfast:

* Mix up a healthy, protein-packed smoothie to take with you when you're on-the-go.

* Throw a couple eggs into your BlenderBottle, shake to scramble, and cook them up!

* Make breakfast the night before and just mix or heat it up in the morning.

What's your healthy breakfast solution for busy mornings?
